I received this book as an ARC from Netgalley and this is my honest review。I was really intrigued by the idea of a collaboration between Dolly Parton and James Patterson， I assumed he would be the main writer and she would provide the ‘country’ authenticity。 I feel like I actually had that the wrong way around， this feels very much like a Dolly Parton novel that James Patterson has provided a thriller twist for。 That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy it but if it’s a thriller you’re looking for then I I received this book as an ARC from Netgalley and this is my honest review。I was really intrigued by the idea of a collaboration between Dolly Parton and James Patterson， I assumed he would be the main writer and she would provide the ‘country’ authenticity。 I feel like I actually had that the wrong way around， this feels very much like a Dolly Parton novel that James Patterson has provided a thriller twist for。 That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy it but if it’s a thriller you’re looking for then I don’t think this is the book for you！ This is definitely more of a follow a girl as she makes it in the country music business in Nashville novel。 I think the thriller element actually distracted from the story， I would have liked to have known more about AnnieLees backstory throughout the novel rather than just finding out at the end but it was still enjoyable。 。。。more

Honestly， I'd read Dolly Partons shopping list so of course I was excited for this。 Mixing Pattersons gritty storytelling with Dolly's glitter， glamour and unique experiences， this is a truly unique collaboration that resulted in a brilliantly entertaining story about fame， dreams and darkness。 Following a young girl just trying to make it， and by chance and a lot of luck gets a meeting with the Queen of Country - but she soon discovers that fame and glory comes with greed， enemies and a lot of Honestly， I'd read Dolly Partons shopping list so of course I was excited for this。 Mixing Pattersons gritty storytelling with Dolly's glitter， glamour and unique experiences， this is a truly unique collaboration that resulted in a brilliantly entertaining story about fame， dreams and darkness。 Following a young girl just trying to make it， and by chance and a lot of luck gets a meeting with the Queen of Country - but she soon discovers that fame and glory comes with greed， enemies and a lot of danger。 This story was definitely more about the rising star and her journey than the thriller/crime aspects of the story - which did leave me feeling a bit disappointed but if the description had changed slightly I think I'd rate it slightly higher。 I'm very much looking forward to re-reading this with the accompanying album at some point， I love mixed media that compliments each other so I'm very intrigued to revisit this again。 。。。more

Definitely not a thriller。A young singer/songwriter on the run from her past trying to become famous which defeats the object of hiding from the past as the past will find you easily。The best thing was the short chapters that James Patterson books are famous for。Lots of song lyrics throughout the book which I found useless without the music。Lots of it unbelievable for me。 Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review

I have never read anything by James Patterson， but I am a huge Dolly Parton fan。 Therefore， I decided to take a chance on this book and I’m glad I did！ I enjoyed the slow build-up of the mystery of Annie Lee’s past， and I loved the lyrics sprinkled throughout the book。Annie Lee （aka Rose） is tough， driven， and talented。 She goes to Nashville to chase her dreams and make it big as a songwriter and singer。 While I don’t really relate to her aspirations or her life experiences， I do admire her cour I have never read anything by James Patterson， but I am a huge Dolly Parton fan。 Therefore， I decided to take a chance on this book and I’m glad I did！ I enjoyed the slow build-up of the mystery of Annie Lee’s past， and I loved the lyrics sprinkled throughout the book。Annie Lee （aka Rose） is tough， driven， and talented。 She goes to Nashville to chase her dreams and make it big as a songwriter and singer。 While I don’t really relate to her aspirations or her life experiences， I do admire her courage and determination。Ruthanna had a great deal in common with the Queen of Nashville herself， including her heart for putting books in the hands of children。 I fell in love with her instantly。 Who doesn’t love Dolly？！？Ethan and Jack were both endearing and sweet。 I liked them both almost instantly。 Ethan was a true storybook hero。I struggled at the beginning of the book with not being able to relate to the storyline and losing my interest。 That being said， it did get better， and after that， I could barely put it down。 This book is a little like watching a country music special/movie， so it may not be everyone’s cup of tea。 I hear Dolly is releasing an album to accompany all of the lyrics in this book， and I can’t wait！ 。。。more

I love Dolly Parton， I love country music and I always enjoy a James Patterson book。 While I did enjoy this， it's not a thriller。 It's a book about a small town girl being taken under the wing of a country music megastar and launching her career。 There is thriller aspects to the last 25% of the book and passing reference to some things earlier on。 But if you go in expecting a thriller then you're going to be disappointed。 I did enjoy this though， even without the thriller read that I was expecti I love Dolly Parton， I love country music and I always enjoy a James Patterson book。 While I did enjoy this， it's not a thriller。 It's a book about a small town girl being taken under the wing of a country music megastar and launching her career。 There is thriller aspects to the last 25% of the book and passing reference to some things earlier on。 But if you go in expecting a thriller then you're going to be disappointed。 I did enjoy this though， even without the thriller read that I was expecting。 My main disappointment was that I listened to the audio， it has Dolly Parton and Kelsea Ballerini （amongst others） narrating。 There are songs throughout the book。 They were spoken and never actually sang。 Given I've just listened to an audio of a Stuart MacBride book and the narrator sang every set of lyrics that was played on the radio， the lack of singing disappointed me。 。。。more

Not so much a thriller， but an adventurous ride through the world of country music and aspiring pop starlets， this was a delightful page-turner。 Run Rose Run isn't the book I normally would have picked up， but the name Dolly Parton sparked my interest。 If someone can tell the story of a star on the rise， then surely it is someone who is considered a household name herself？ I'm honestly surprised this is marketed as a thriller。 For most of the novel， I kept having flashbacks of the musical soap o Not so much a thriller， but an adventurous ride through the world of country music and aspiring pop starlets， this was a delightful page-turner。 Run Rose Run isn't the book I normally would have picked up， but the name Dolly Parton sparked my interest。 If someone can tell the story of a star on the rise， then surely it is someone who is considered a household name herself？ I'm honestly surprised this is marketed as a thriller。 For most of the novel， I kept having flashbacks of the musical soap opera Nashville， a TV show that was immensely fun to watch， but not particularly mysterious in its nature。 The novel centres around AnnieLee， a girl who is new in town and ready to make it big。 Equipped with nothing but her angelic voice， all we know as a reader is that she's brave and reluctant to speak of her past。 As the story progresses she's proving to be not only very lucky， but also very determined to make it。I enjoyed her tough nature and the general progression of the story。 There was something very easy about the narrative， as AnnieLee meets good-hearted people who support （and fall in love with） her and is ready to stand up against those who won't。 There was something sugar-coated about how naturally everything was falling into place， which I didn't actually mind， as the story was fun in its own right。 Her "dark past" was probably the most uninteresting bit。 It's mentioned every now and then as we follow her journey and I get why it was felt like the story needed some sort of secret in order to create some tension， but it felt constructed to me and didn't actually add much to the story itself， or wasn't engaging enough to really deserve that much attention。 I was lucky to dive into this ahead of its release thanks to Libro。fm， but am very excited to hear the songs that Dolly Parton recorded for this when it comes out！ It's a nice addition to this journey， just like having a context to the songs will be fun。 All in all， this qualifies as a solid beach-read， if you know what I mean， but isn't crazily memorable。 。。。more

Considering that I've read more than my fair share of books by prolific author James Patterson， it's fair to say I'm a fan。 Same for Dolly Parton; I love her music （the Trio album with Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt is near the top of my 10 all-time favorites list and I've seen her in concert）。 But a book co-written by the two？ Seriously？ Curiosity got the better of me， though， so I requested - and received - a review copy （thanks to the publisher， via NetGalley）。 And while I won't call it an Considering that I've read more than my fair share of books by prolific author James Patterson， it's fair to say I'm a fan。 Same for Dolly Parton; I love her music （the Trio album with Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt is near the top of my 10 all-time favorites list and I've seen her in concert）。 But a book co-written by the two？ Seriously？ Curiosity got the better of me， though， so I requested - and received - a review copy （thanks to the publisher， via NetGalley）。 And while I won't call it an edge-of-seat， bite-your nails thriller - it's more a coming-of-age-in-the-music-business kind of story - by golly， it was quite entertaining。 AnnieLee Keyes， a young thing purty as a speckled pup under a big red wagon and determined to write and sing songs that climb to the top of the Country-Western chart hitchhikes from Texas to Nashville and - with no money and no guitar - convinces a bartender to let her borrow an instrument and take to the stage。 She makes quite an impression; next thing you know， she's under the wing of megastar Ruthanna Ryder， who is officially retired from the business and lives a life of luxury， complete with a recording studio in her basement。 Add to the mix hunky and single Ethan Blake， who [surprise！] is attracted to AnnieLee but is hesitant to 'fess up because he knows the only stars in her eyes are a reflection of her desire to become one。The rest of the story centers on AnnieLee's journey to the top and the obstacles the industry throws at star wannabes - plus the secrets that both AnnieLee and Ethan have in their past lives that threaten their current plans （perhaps even permanently）。 If I had to guess， I'd say the story concept was a joint venture， after which Patterson did most of the writing and Dolly contributed her vast knowledge of the music business from a performer's perspective as well as lyrics to several songs "composed" by AnnieLee， Ruthanna and Ethan。 At the end of the book are the full lyrics to these songs， though without accompanying music， I found it a little hard to hum along。In the end， the unlikely duo won me over， and I think most other readers will enjoy the book as well。 Good job！ 。。。more

FreedomRun Rose Run is a wonderfully entertaining story of a young， promising， talented singer-songwriter trying to escape an abusive past and make it in Nashville。 This is a perfect read for lovers of the Nashville TV drama series， with a beautiful diminutive singer catching a break when the retired 'Queen of Country' takes her under her wing。 The ladder to success in the music industry has many difficult rungs， with setbacks， rejections， predators， greedy agents， manipulative record labels， an FreedomRun Rose Run is a wonderfully entertaining story of a young， promising， talented singer-songwriter trying to escape an abusive past and make it in Nashville。 This is a perfect read for lovers of the Nashville TV drama series， with a beautiful diminutive singer catching a break when the retired 'Queen of Country' takes her under her wing。 The ladder to success in the music industry has many difficult rungs， with setbacks， rejections， predators， greedy agents， manipulative record labels， and overwhelming competition to deal with， never mind the threat of someone wanting you dead。 Each author's influence is evident， with the rags to riches story of a country singer tied to a menacing past that threatens her life。 AnnieLee Keyes arrives in Nashville， penniless， friendless， and sleeping rough in a local park。 Driven and sassy， she enters the Cat's Paw bar and pushes for a chance to perform on-stage。 Winning over the barman， AnnieLee borrows a guitar and sings her own songs。 Before she knows it， the crowd are cheering and enjoying her set。 When she announces that she has sang all her songs and can now sing requested covers， the crowd shout for her to sing her songs again。 Hearing her sing that night is Ethan Blake， a musician who is a friend of Ruthanna Ryder， the retired Queen of Country and owner of the Cat's Paw。 These three characters each have secrets and deep hurt in their past， and as the story progresses truths are revealed。 There is a nearly-nearly love relationship between AnnieLee and Ethan， each harbouring feelings for the other but reluctant to take that first step。 I felt this part was managed well， even though it is so cliché。I love the story of the underdog battling through hardships to achieve a dream。 However， there is a significant issue as it's a story that's been told so many times before and a road well-trodden。 The convenience of meeting two saintly people of crucial importance in a world of dog-eat-dog felt unrealistic， especially as Ruthanna and Ethan went to incredible lengths to help AnnieLee， including putting their own lives in danger。AnnieLee lives for her music and songwriting with verses tripping out of her head onto the page at every opportunity， which I tended to ignore。 I enjoyed reading the book and the momentum of the story was very well balanced。 Fans of Nashville， country music and Dolly Parton will enjoy this book， and I would recommend it with the cautions above。 I want to thank Random House UK， Cornerstone and NetGalley for providing a free ARC in return for an honest review。 。。。more

Ok， what a dynamic duo these two make！！ I was obsessed with reading James Patterson books growing up and when I saw he had one coming out with the legend Dolly Parton， I knew I needed it！I rotated reading this one between physical and audio and truly relished the parts narrated by Dolly herself！ I also love when they have multiple narrators and this one had 9！ Patterson has such a knack for creating such suspenseful books and paired with Dolly’s knowledge of the country music scene， this one was Ok， what a dynamic duo these two make！！ I was obsessed with reading James Patterson books growing up and when I saw he had one coming out with the legend Dolly Parton， I knew I needed it！I rotated reading this one between physical and audio and truly relished the parts narrated by Dolly herself！ I also love when they have multiple narrators and this one had 9！ Patterson has such a knack for creating such suspenseful books and paired with Dolly’s knowledge of the country music scene， this one was such a fun story！I ultimately devoured it and found it incredibly charming and captivating。 While it did focus a lot more on the music industry than the thriller aspect， I’m a huge country music fan and it certainly worked for me！This one has best seller written all over it！ 。。。more
